European Blockchain Convention

16 – 17 September 2026 · Barcelona, Spain

Now in its twelfth edition, the European Blockchain Convention brings more than 6,000 attendees to Barcelona with an institutional digital asset focus.

Why it might be worth the flight

Europe's regulatory picture under MiCA is further along than most other regions, which makes the institutional conversation here more concrete than speculative. Twelve editions in, the attendee list skews to people who have been doing this a while.

Paying while you are there

  • Euro at the terminal. Spain is card-friendly, and contactless is standard almost everywhere.
  • Tickets and hotels are usually priced in dollars already, so there is nothing to convert.
  • At the card machine, choose the local currency. Never take the offer to be billed in dollars.

Step 1 · The ticket

Get into European Blockchain Convention

Priced in dollars. Paid in dollars. Nothing lost in between.

Official tickets

Passes get more expensive the longer you wait, and the good side events fill up from the main ticket list. Book the pass first. Then the travel.

Flights to Barcelona

Fares climb sharply in the four weeks before a major conference. Long-haul from APAC - worth pairing with other European stops.

Know before you tap

Two rules that save you real money abroad

  1. 01

At the card machine, always choose the local currency

Converts once, at a flat 1.8% Forex Charge.

Why the dollar option costs more

The machine will offer to charge you in dollars instead. It sounds helpful. It is not. Choose the local currency - baht, yen, won, whatever is on the screen - and your money converts once, at a flat 1.8% Forex Charge.

Taking the dollar option is called dynamic currency conversion. The shop sets that exchange rate, not Visa, and it usually costs you 3% to 7%. You will never see it listed as a fee, because it is hidden inside the rate. That is the point of it. Say no, every time.

  2. 02

Online, pay in dollars when the site is already in dollars

Nothing to convert, nothing to pay. 0%.

Why this one is not a trick

Booking sites, conference tickets and airlines often quote in dollars already. That is not a conversion trick. That is just the price. Your money is already in dollars, so there is nothing to convert and nothing to pay. 0%.

Hotel in dollars. Flight in dollars. Ticket in dollars. Three charges, no conversion on any of them.
