Questions

Answers, without the hedging

How is the cross rate calculated?

Both coins are priced against the US dollar, and the cross rate is the first price divided by the second. That is how every venue builds it, and it is why a pair can move when neither coin has done anything unusual: the dollar leg moved underneath both of them.

Is this the rate I will actually get on a swap?

No, and no converter can promise that. This is the mid-market rate, which is the midpoint before anybody adds a spread. A real swap adds the venue's spread, any trading fee, and network costs. Treat this as the benchmark you measure a quote against.

Can I swap coins inside Kite?

Kite is a wallet, a card and a payments app rather than a trading venue. You can receive any supported asset for free, hold a dollar balance, send, and spend. If you want to compare what a swap should cost, this page is the benchmark to hold it up against.

Why do USDT and USDC not sit at exactly 1.0000?

Because they are two separate instruments that both target a dollar, and the market prices each one independently. The gap is usually a few hundredths of a percent. It widens when one of them is under stress, which is exactly when it is worth looking at this number.

What does it cost to spend a stablecoin balance on Kite?

Receiving is free, holding is free, and the card costs nothing to issue or keep. Moving a balance onto the card is 0.53%. Spending in US dollars carries no added fee, and everything else is a flat 1.8%.

Does the chart show the pair or the coin?

The pair. When both sides are coins, the chart is the ratio between them, built from both dollar series. When one side is a currency, it is the coin priced in that currency.
