Answers, without the hedging
What exchange rate does this converter use?
The mid-market rate, which is the midpoint between what buyers are bidding and what sellers are asking. It is the rate quoted on a market data screen and the right number to convert with, because nobody has taken a cut out of it yet.
It is a reference rate rather than a quote. Any bank, remittance service or card will differ from it by their own spread and fees.
Why do most currency pairs go through the US dollar?
Because that is where the liquidity is. Direct markets exist for a handful of the largest pairs, and everything else is a cross rate built from two dollar legs. Singapore dollars to pesos is priced as Singapore dollars to dollars, then dollars to pesos.
It has a practical consequence. Your pair moves when either currency moves against the dollar, so a quiet week at home can still change your rate.
Can I send money between the countries Kite serves?
Yes. Sending is free up to a daily limit per chain, after which there is a flat fee for that chain, and receiving is always free with the gas covered by us. The balance arrives in US dollars, and the person at the other end can spend it on the card, pay a merchant QR with Scan and Pay, or move it to their bank.
What does Kite charge to spend in another currency?
Moving your balance onto the card is 0.53%. Spending in US dollars carries no added fee from us, and everything else is a flat 1.8%. Issuing the card, replacing it and keeping it are all free, and there is no annual fee.
How often do these rates update?
The converter refreshes every 60 seconds from live market data. The chart is built from daily reference rates, which publish once each business day, so it has no intraday view by design.
Which currencies are on this page?
Forty-three. The nine currencies of the markets we serve come first in the picker, then the US dollar, euro and pound, then the rest grouped by region across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Typing a country name will find its currency.
Two of them are shared: the West African CFA franc covers Côte d'Ivoire and seven neighbours, and the Central African CFA franc covers Cameroon, the Republic of the Congo and four more. Ecuador uses the US dollar, so pick USD for it.
The converter is free for anyone. Kite accounts are open to residents of Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Australia.
Hold the dollar leg, do not just pass through it.
A Kite balance sits in US dollars, the Stable Card spends them anywhere Visa is accepted, and Scan and Pay handles the merchant QR. Nothing to issue the card and no annual fee.
