What crypto means by it

A way to prove something is true without revealing what sits behind it: that you are over 18 without showing your date of birth, or that a batch of transactions is valid without publishing every one of them.

What you already know this as

Proving you meet a lending criterion without handing over your full statement. Banking has wanted this for years and still mostly cannot do it.
